I would be lying to you if I told you I ate a clean, healthy meal every single time. When it?s time to eat I try to find the best foods available, but sometimes it?s just tough to know what to eat. Especially when you’re out traveling on the road, and your typical schedule is all screwed up, it seems as if the only place to eat is fast food.
Today I was out in rural North Carolina traveling, it was around 2 o’clock in the evening, way past my lunch time, so naturally I was pretty hungry. So I started looking for some food, and there was nothing in sight but fast food.
Just a gas station that served fried chicken, which I’m sure was good. I saw Bojangles–if I were to eat some chicken, this would be my first choice. And yes a grocery store, Food Lion.
I decided to stop at Food Lion to make the best of my situation. ?So I ended up buying some greek yogurt, raw unsalted cashews, and an apple. That held me for a while until I made it to good ol’ Chipotle.
I love eating at Chipotle, and I’m too afraid to ask, but is…
Is Chipotle Healthy
So this is what I?m going to do, I?m going “straight to the horse’s mouth? Chipotle?s Nutrition Calculator.
I?m going to show you what I usually eat at Chipotle, and then we can decide if it?s healthy or not.
Let’s walk down the line as if we’re at Chipotle. ?I lead off with brown rice.
Pinto or Black?…..Um Pinto Beans
Chicken with that!
I’ll take the medium…
And of course, I got to get my cheese on top.
I admit that I eat at Chipotle about twice a week. ?If I’m traveling for the day and I didn’t bring my food for lunch, I prefer to eat at Chipotle.
I’d like to believe it’s a little healthier than eating McDonald’s?or a few of these other fast food joints.
Let’s Watch That Sodium
This meal has 1,875 milligrams of sodium. ?Wow!!
The American Heart Association recommends no more than 2,300 mg, but ideally no more than 1,500 mg per day.
Read this below, I had to post this directly from The American Heart Association.
What should my daily Sodium intake be?
The American Heart Association recommends no more than 2,300 milligrams (mgs) a day and an ideal limit of no more than 1,500 mg per day for most adults.
Because the average American’s sodium intake is so excessive, even cutting back to no more than 2,400 milligrams a day will significantly improve blood pressure and heart health.
More than 75 percent of the sodium Americans eat comes from some processed, prepackaged and restaurant foods – not from the salt shaker.
So What Should I do, Hint: Skip the Fast Food?
So you may ask, what’s the best solution? ?It’s honestly a tough thing to tackle, and I’m going to tell you what I decided to do about it. ?It may work for you, then again it may not, but hey, it’s worth a shot.
This past Sunday, I decided to go shopping at the grocery store, and prepare to do what I have refused to do for so long.
I’ve always refused to meal prep, I could barely plan my day, much less plan what I’m going to eat for an entire week.
So this is what I did.
First I bought an app that cost me $2.99 from the Apple Store, called Fit Men Cook.? Check out the website when you get a chance.
Of course, you don’t have to be a man to cook from this site, but I figured it was geared towards people like me. ?A guy, looking for quick easy meals to prepare for the upcoming week.
Turned out to be a lifesaver, and for only $2.99, I felt as if I stole this from Apple’s app store. ?It has the whole 9, easy recipes, shopping lists, calendars to plan your meals out, and short videos to show you how to cook the meals. ?Just Awesome!
I had most of the spices in my cupboard, I ended up going to the grocery store and spent about $50 or $60 on food for the week.
I cooked a Cactus & Cilantro Turkey Chili?(I used beans instead of cactus), and a Sesame Beef & Broccoli.? Here are the recipes, but I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t like the turkey chili too much. ?The tomato past that I used seemed to dominate the chili, I don’t think I used enough seasoning. ?Also, I would have liked to add a bit of spice and kick to my chili.
But the Sesame Beef & Broccoli…
That was perfect, I’m going to be trying the recipe again.
So good! ?I was a little proud of myself for making that.
You Know What?
It’s Sunday and it’s about 70 degrees outside today. ?I’m going to follow my own advice, go to the grocery store and try to find some tasty meals to cook for the week.
Do you take your lunch to work? ?What do you normally eat for the week? ?I’d love to know.
